Are you coaching or leading groups or teams? Does the performance of the team need to be improved? Is the relationship between the leader and members not as good as it could be? Are decisions taking too much time? Is the team focussed too much on internal processes instead of on the client?

Then this training is for you.


By the end of the program participants will have :

  • Gained a clear understanding of the theory and methodology of TA Team Coaching;
  • Developed the skills to practice as TA Team Coach;
  • Gained deep personal understanding of themselves in the role as a teamleader, member and coach


This program is for experienced helping professionals such as coaches, consultants and leaders with basic coach training and at least four years experience as an individual coach, who want to deepen their team coaching and development skills. The program is based on transactional analysis, group relations, family constellations and other frames of reference.

The program consists of six two-day workshops, as well as accountability groups, a case study and team coaching client work.

Workshop 1. Structure and dynamics of groups

The purpose of the workshop is to explore specific interventions to increase durability, effectiveness and efficiency within your team. Within Transactional analysis some key concepts at the group level are (Berne, 1964). In this workshop we will give an overview of TA organizational theory, specifically focused on creating high performing groups and teams. You will learn about the team structure (boundaries, roles, and hierarchy), the relational structure and about the psychodynamic structure, which is based on thE unconscious expectations of the people in the team.

Workshop 2. The leadership journey

The purpose of the workshop is to explore specific interventions to develop leadership within the team. In this workshop we will journey through the twelve steps of a hero’s journey, discovering the mythic aspects of your leadership script formation. The twelve steps described by Campbell are: prologue, call to action, refusal of the call, meeting of the mentor, selection, king for a day, meeting the goddess, ordeal, the dagger, the return to the light, death and resurrection and the elixir. We will use film to illustrate each step, describing the essence of each step and the paradoxes that you will need to be overcome to progress to the next stage of development.

Workshop 3. Stages of group development

The purpose of the workshop is to explore specific interventions to accelerate group development. Every group develops through a series of stages, determined by the complexity of the environment and the team maturity. We will simulate five stages of development, each characterized by a specific leadership style, structure and possible problems. You will learn about: stages of development, typical leadership, culture and prevalent problems and interventions to facilitate development.

Workshop 4. Coaching in the group

The purpose of the workshop is to explore specific interventions to work with individuals while using group learning. Coaching in the group is about the ability to coach individual members in a group setting. In this workshop we will learn about individual development and working with the individual coaching matrix. By the end of the workshop participants will be able to use concepts and tools at the behavioural, relational and narrative script level to accelerate learning in the group.

Workshop 5. Team coaching

The purpose of the workshop is to explore specific interventions to coach a team. This workshop will be dedicated to creating high performance teams through team coaching. Team coaching is about coaching the group as an entity. We will explore the six variables that create high performance teams and the theories of team development. We will then use the team coaching matrix to intervene at the structural, dynamic and imago level of the team.

Workshop 6. Accreditation team coaching

The accreditation process provides a framework for accreditation, for learning and for transforming the professional identity of participants. The accreditation process assesses the integration of team coaching tools, theory and ethics and their application in the participants’ work situations. Candidates must be able to explain what they do, why they do it and options they might have had. During the accreditation process the candidates present their signature team coaching approach and their case study written about the team coaching process with a client. This certification is in keeping with the ICF competencies and the transactional analysis requirements.

Additional requirements

To achieve their accreditation participants need to attend the workshops, participate in their accountability groups, and realise a team coaching process with a client and finish their case study about this process.

Results of the program

We have been giving this program since 2010. After the program our participants are:

  • Able to manage their own process in a way that supports the client’s process,
  • Able to present an extensive range of team coaching concepts and applications
  • Able to establish clear and ethical contracts even in ambiguous team settings,
  • Flexible in their relationship with the client to meet their developmental needs,
  • Able to use feedback and challenge effectively to enable insight and learning,
  • Able to explore the wider impact of interventions.
